Opinions, research articles, cases, and reviews #
Overview #
Data Science Quarterly seeks authors who use data to strengthen their stories—databases, tables, graphs, maps, visualizations, traditional statistics, machine learning, and contemporary information technology.
We can build trust in science and the media through investigative reporting and accurate, factual presentation of research results. Let’s espouse the scientific method, writing articles guided by trustworthy research and analysis.
Informed by data science and rigorous research, we can provide a more complete picture of the world through clear, evidence-based communication. We look for authors who can explain data, analytics, and models in words the public understands.
Submission Guidelines #
Each issue of Data Science Quarterly will include opinions, research articles, cases, and reviews. Here are suggested word counts within sections:
-
Opinions: 800 words maximum, no figures or tables, and no more than three references. Send submissions to opinions@data-science-quarterly.com
-
Research articles: no more than 6,000 words, excluding tables, figures, and reference list. Send submissions to research@data-science-quarterly.com
-
Cases: no more than 3,000 words, intended to promote the case study method of teaching in data science, may include tables, figures, and links to data sources. Send submissions to cases@data-science-quarterly.com
-
Reviews: 500 to 1,000 words, book and software reviews. Send submissions to reviews@data-science-quarterly.com
All work must be original, not previously published, and not currently considered for publication elsewhere. Co-authors and entities involved (including previously published tables and figures) must have permission and approval for the submission to be accepted.
Submit articles as MS Word or plain text files using The Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) as a style guide. See chapter 15 of that manual for author-date text citations and reference lists. After the second phase of reviews, authors will be provided with additional guidelines.
